High-Performance 10GbE and 40GbE Connectivity
The DXS-5000-54S features 48 SFP+ ports supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR, or Direct Attach Copper), all backward compatible with 1GbE SFPs. Six additional QSFP+ ports deliver 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40GBASE-SR or 40GBASE-LR) for high-speed uplinks. Using optional DAC breakout cables, the switch can support up to 72 x 10GbE ports, providing exceptional flexibility for growing data center environments.
Open Networking and SDN Flexibility
As a bare metal switch, the DXS-5000-54S ships pre-loaded with the Open Network Install Environment (ONIE), allowing IT professionals to install their preferred network operating system as part of the data center provisioning process. This open architecture lowers costs by separating software from hardware, increases network agility, and simplifies scalability. The switch also supports OpenFlow 1.3 for seamless integration with SDN controllers and software-defined networking environments including Cumulus Networks and Pluribus Netvisor OS.
Maximum Uptime and Reliability
Designed for mission-critical applications, the DXS-5000-54S features a modular fan and power supply design for high availability. Both fans and power supplies are hot-swappable, allowing replacements without affecting switch operation. The switch includes two 550W AC power supply modules with 1+1 redundancy and load sharing to evenly distribute power and maximize reliability. With an MTBF of 205,000 hours, this switch is built for continuous 24/7 operation.
Advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 Features
The DXS-5000-54S offers a comprehensive L2 and L3 feature set to meet the demands of enterprise and data center applications. Layer 2 features include L2 switching, L2 multicast, advanced Quality of Service (QoS), and robust security features. Layer 3 capabilities include advanced routing with OSPF, BGP, Graceful Restart, Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD), and L3 multicast. The switch also supports MLAG, MLD Snooping, VXLAN, and data center bridging standards including IEEE 802.1Qbb, 802.1Qaz, and 802.1Qau.
Energy-Efficient Design
The DXS-5000-54S supports front-to-back airflow (and back-to-front models are available), optimizing air circulation inside the rack, supporting hot and cold aisle configurations in data centers, and increasing energy efficiency. Smart fans with internal heat sensors monitor temperature changes and adjust fan speeds accordingly. At lower temperatures, fans run slower, reducing power consumption and noise levels.
